Paul Morton

PJ Morton (nacido como Paul Morton Jr., el 29 de marzo de 1981, Louisiana, Estados Unidos), es un músico y productor musical estadounidense, ganador de un Grammy; actualmente también es el tecladista de la banda de pop-rock Maroon 5.

El 27 de marzo de 2012, P.J. lanzó su proyecto solista, un EP de distribución libre llamado "Following My First Mind", en el sello de Lil Wayne, Young Money Entertainment; el mismo está compuesto por 7 temas, con diferentes estilos e instrumentos. El primer sencillo, Heavy, cuenta con la colaboración de Adam Levine, el cantante y líder de la banda Maroon 5 y entrenador del programa de NBC The Voice. Otros artistas invitados en el disco son Lil Wayne, Jazmine Sullivan y Chantee Cann. P.J. está actualmente trabajando en completar su álbum debut.

Nacido en Nueva Orleans, creció en un entorno musical y cultural muy rico, en el cual pudo desarrollar su talento. Aunque la música con la cual creció fue el gospel, estuvo influenciado por artistas como Los Beatles y James Taylor, así como por leyendas del soul como Stevie Wonder. Tales influencias diversas alentaron a P.J. a encontrar su veta artística y a crecer musicalmente.

El trabajo de P.J. en solitario atrajo la atención del presidente de Young Money Entertainment, Mack Maine, quien convenció a P.J. de firmar para su compañía productora Soothe Your Soul Entertainment y para su sello en 2011. Maine reconoció al instante el talento de Morton, junto con los directivos de Cash Money Record Ronald "Slim" Williams y Brian "Birdman" Williams, y el capitán de Young Money Entertainment, Lil Wayne. Con respecto a Morton y su EP, Maine expresó:

«Firmé con P.J. porque su música no solamente endulza tus oídos, sino que endulza tu alma. Su música verdaderamente impacta tus emociones y se cuela en tu mente. Hemos sabido que P.J. es un artista especial por muchos años, y ahora con Young Money Entertainment siendo capaz de compartir su música a gran escala, el mundo entero lo sabrá»

Por su parte, P.J. declaró:

« Estaba emocionado desde el principio por la oportunidad con Young Money, porque son casi el único sello que habla sobre creatividad e individualidad. Ellos tienen una lista de estrellas, pero cada acto es artísticamente único. Son los únicos haciendo las cosas como los viejos sellos lo hacían en los viejos tiempos cuando estaba Marvin Gayecreando algo muy diferente a Stevie Wonder, quien hacía las cosas muy diferente a Donny Hathaway; aun así, todo ello era celebrado, todo tenía éxito»

El salto para Morton se dio en 2010, cuando el director musical de Maroon 5 y amigo de P.J. Adam Blackstone le pidió audicionar para el rol de vocalista/tecladista en la banda. P.J. fue el primero en ser evaluado y dejó una marca indeleble en el grupo. Desde entonces, ha tocado con Maroon 5 en conciertos y otras presentaciones en vivo y actualmente está reemplazando al tecladista de la banda, Jesse Carmichael, quien se ha tomado un descanso de la banda (confirmada por el grupo en marzo de 2012).

Luego de ganar un Grammy por componer y producir el álbum de India Arie "Interested", P.J. ganó sus nominaciones en los certámenes Dove y Stellar, dos entregas de premios a la música gospel. Su colaboración con el cantante de dicho estilo DeWayne Woods dio lugar a un enorme salto en su carrera. El testimonio que P.J. articuló en "Let Go, Let God" lo catapultó a los primeros puestos de las listas por 17 semanas y recibiño numerosos premios y reconocimientos. Llamó asimismo la atención del compositor ganador del Oscar, A.R. Rahman (responsable de la música de "Quién quiere ser millonario?"). A. R. aprovechó la ocasión para pedirle su contribución con el tema "Sajna" para la banda de sonido de la comedia Sólo para Parejas, protagonizada por Vince Vaughn. P.J. ha producido y escrito además para artistas dignos de mención y ganadores dedisco de platino como Jermaine Dupri, LL Cool J, Jagged Edge, Monica, India Arie, la estrella del gospel Fred Hammond y Heather Headley.

Matthew Flynn

Matthew "Matt" Flynn (born May 23, 1970) is the drummer of American pop rock band Maroon 5. In 2006, after being the band's touring drummer for two years, Flynn has officially replaced the original drummer of Maroon 5, Ryan Dusick, who left the group due to serious wrist and shoulder injuries sustained from constant touring after the release of their first album, Songs About Jane in 2002.

Prior to joining Maroon 5, Flynn has played drums for The B-52's, Chicago, Gavin DeGraw and Gandhi.




Flynn was born in Woodstock, New York. When Flynn was 14 years old, he picked up his first pair of drumsticks in his father's basement and immediately started drumming the beat to "Jump" by Van Halen, impressing his father greatly. Later that year he came third in his high school talent show, behind stand up comedian Daniel Tosh and a dance crew known as "Tropic Lightning".




Flynn graduated from Gunn High School and briefly attended San Diego State University.

Flynn is married to Heidi Ford, who has a fraternal twin named Jenny "Jenni" Ford. On June 5, 2007, Flynn's wife gave birth to their second child, named Michael Ford Flynn. His elder daughter is named Ryan.




Over the years, Flynn has played Yamaha drums, as well as Sabian and Zildjian cymbals, among other brands. Currently, he endorses Ludwig drums (since 2010), Paiste cymbals (since 2014), Remodrumheads and Vater drumsticks.

Jesse Carmichael (2 de abril de 1979, Boulder, Colorado) es un músico estadounidense, conocido por formar parte del grupo de rock-pop Maroon 5. Se mudó con su familia a Los Ángeles cuando estaba en edad escolar, comenzando a tocar la guitarra en la preparatoria. Junto con sus amigos Adam Levine, Ryan Dusick y Mickey Madden formaron el grupo Kara's Flowers en 1994, con influencias de grupos como Pearl Jam y Nirvana.


Kara's Flowers firmó un contrato con Reprise Records y produjo el álbum The Fourth World. El álbum tuvo poco éxito lo cual llevó a la disolución del grupo. Levine y Carmichael asistieron a Five Towns College en Long Island. Sin embargo, Levine y Carmichael sólo duraron un semestre en la universidad antes de la deserción y de su regreso a California, luego de lo cual los dos habían adquirido experiencia en composición y Jesse cambio su instrumento musical por el teclado.

Los miembros de Kara's Flowers finalmente se reunieron y con la adición de James Valentine como guitarrista, formaron la banda Maroon 5. Con la banda, lanzaron su primer álbum, Songs About Jane en junio de 2002, que tuvo buenas ventas los años siguientes y alcanzó la distinción de Disco de platino en 2004. El 8 de marzo de 2012, previo al lanzamiento del cuarto disco de Maroon 5, Overexposed, se anunció que Carmichael tomaría un descanso temporario de la banda para dedicarse a sus estudios de música, de reiki y meditación. P.J. Morton, el teclista que solía acompañar a la banda en las giras, tomó su lugar desde esa fecha en adelante. Jesse anunció que volvería a la banda cuando decidieran sacar su quinto álbum de estudio.

Ryan Dusick

Ryan Michael Dusick (born September 19, 1977) is the former and original drummer of American pop rock band Maroon 5.  Dusick is the grandson of Jack Dusick and cousin of David Farentino. He attended Brentwood School and UCLA.

In 1994, Ryan Dusick joined friends Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael and Mickey Madden, whom he met in French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts, to form the band Kara's Flowers.

The quartet scored a record deal with Reprise Records. In 1997, the band released an album titled The Fourth World. That same year the band appeared on an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. The album had little success, and its only single, "Soap Disco", failed commercially. Due to the album's mediocre success Reprise released the band from their contract.

Following the termination of their deal, the band went on hiatus and everyone went their separate ways.

In 2001, Dusick reunited with Levine, Madden and Carmichael. This time, they were joined by former Square guitarist James Valentine. The group changed their name to Maroon 5 and set to work writing new songs that owned a fresh groove-based element dissimilar from their previous songs, with tracks mostly inspired by one of Levine's failed relationships. The band scored a new deal with Octone Records and in June 2002, they released the album Songs About Jane.

The band scored several hit singles. At the 47th Grammy Awards in 2005, the band was named Best New Artist. The next year, they won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for the live version of "This Love". The quintet toured constantly in support of the record. However, the constant performing proved to be detrimental to Dusick, who wound up hurting his arm so badly from the continuous shows that he was forced to stop playing in late 2004. As he temporarily sat out to undergo tests and attempt to heal, Maroon 5 continued their heavy touring regime with musicians such as Ryland Steen (former drummer of Square and current member of Reel Big Fish) and Josh Day taking Dusick's place behind the drum kit.

Matt Flynn officially replaced Ryan Dusick in September 2006 (Flynn had already been Maroon 5's touring drummer from 2004 to 2006), although Dusick was credited as the "Musical Director" in the liner notes of the band's second studio album It Won't Be Soon Before Long, which was released in 2007.

James Valentine

James Burgon Valentine (5 de octubre de 1978 en Lincoln, Nebraska, Estados Unidos) es el guitarrista del grupo estadounidense de pop rock Maroon 5. También era guitarrista de una banda de pop llamada Jjamz.

Valentine se considera un mormón activo o practicante; de pequeño solía asistir a la iglesia con su familia, pero ahora debido a sus compromisos y al poco tiempo libre del que dispone, sólo asiste esporádicamente cuando visita su casa familiar, su familia es un pilar importante para él, según ha declarado en una entrevista:

«Cuando estamos de gira, nos rodeamos de mucha gente que quiere algo de ti todo el tiempo. Es maravilloso tener una sólida base familiar sobre la cual apoyarse, mucha gente no tiene eso, me siento realmente afortunado».

JJAMZ es una banda compuesta por James Valentine (Maroon 5), Jason Boesel (Rilo Kiley/Conor Oberst), Alex Greenwald (Phantom Planet), Michael Runion (solista), y Z Berg (The Like). El grupo se inició luego de una noche de karaoke en Hollywood. El nombre de la banda es un acrónimo usando la primera letra del nombre cada miembro. El grupo representa un medio de escape de cada miembro de sus respectivas bandas. «JJAMZ comenzó en un momento interesante en la vida de cada uno de nosotros. Todos necesitamos algún tipo de escape de nuestras relaciones o nuestras otras bandas. Fue un tiempo tumultuoso, y las letras salieron. Fue como un vómito de palabras. No puedo recordarlo.», dijo Z Berg, vocalista de The Like. La banda realizó su primer concierto en el Echo Plex el 27 de enero de 2009. Lanzaron su primer disco, Suicide Pact, el 10 de julio de 2012.

Valentine tocaba en las bandas Kid Quarkstar, Mondello y Happy Dog en Nebraska. En 2000, Happy Dog cambio su nombre por el de Square y se trasladó a Los Angeles, California desde Anaheim, California en donde tenía clases particulares de guitarra en su hogar.

Valentine también ha tocado con Reel Big Fish, cuando el guitarrista Aaron Barrett se había fracturado una mano, y más tarde en 2001 cuando Barrett se cayó por unas escaleras. Valentine muestra una foto de Reel Big Fish en el programa MTV Cribs cuando apareció junto a Maroon 5. Eventualmente, los integrantes de Square y de Kara's Flowers se convirtieron en amigos, y cuando Kara's Flowers estaba en busca de otro guitarrista, Valentine se les unió. 

Durante su infancia, mostró gran interés por la música, creando instrumentos de cartón para jugar con sus amigos. Debido a ello, sus padres lo anotaron en clases de guitarra (primero en un programa escolar, luego con un profesor privado). Recibió su primera guitarra de regalo al conseguir una insignia de Eagle Scout (la más alta del rango de insignias) en su grupo de boy scouts.

Durante su adolescencia, fue invitado a tocar con el ensemble de jazz de la Universidad de Nebraska, compartiendo escenario con músicos del doble de su edad. Gracias a ello, desarrolló muchas conexiones con otros músicos y recibió reconocimientos, pero al no percibir la carrera de músico como lucrativa, consideró estudiar la carrera de Publicidad. Pero en el año 2000, Valentine y su banda Square ganaron el premio Ernie Ball de batalla de las bandas en Nebraska, por lo cual viajaron a Los Ángeles, donde fueron los ganadores de la final del certamen. Luego de ello, conoció a los miembros de Kara's Flowers uniéndose a la banda, e incorporando a la misma su estilo de componer y sus conocimientos de jazz. El nuevo grupo cambió su nombre a Maroon 5 apenas firmó con el sello BMG. James declaró:

«Me siento muy afortunado por haber seguido con la música, porque ciertamente hay tiempos difíciles. Supongo que esa fue una de las grandes lecciones que aprendí  que tus metas pueden alcanzarse».



Mickey A. Madden

Michael Allen Madden, also known as Mickey Madden (born May 13, 1979) is an American musician, who is best known for being the bassist in the pop rock band Maroon 5.

Madden was born in Austin, Texas. He began playing in junior high school, playing in garages along with friends Jesse Carmichael (guitar/vocals) and Adam Levine (vocals/guitar). The bands Pearl Jam and Nirvana were among their influences. In 1994, with the addition of Ryan Dusick (drums), the band Kara's Flowers was formed.

After the break-up of Kara's Flowers, Madden attended classes at UCLA. After Madden attended college, before long, however, the guys had reconvened back in Los Angeles to begin writing new songs that featured more groove-based elements than their past songs. The group reformed (with James Valentine (guitar) joining the line-up and Jesse Carmichael mainly playing the keyboards) and pursued a new musical direction, changing their name to Maroon 5.

 After scoring a new deal with Octone Records and writing a bunch of songs directly inspired by Levine's recently failed relationship, Maroon 5 released their debut album, the aptly titled Songs About Jane, in June 2002. The album sold steadily over the next couple of years and was certified platinum by 2004. Maroon 5 scored several hit singles, won two Grammy Awards, and toured constantly in supportThroughout their career, the band has released 5 studio albums: Songs About Jane (2002), It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2007), Hands All Over (2010), Overexposed (2012) and V (2014).

Questions Just For Mickey...

1. OK, so originally the band was called Kara’s Flowers. What’s wrong with Kara and her flowers? What made you choose Maroon 5 as a name?

We needed a fresh start when we changed the name. We added a new member, a new direction.  We were all older and into different things. It made the most sense for us, to shed the Kara’s Flowers name and start fresh.  As for the name Maroon 5, it’s a secret that only the band and Billy Joel know the answer to.

2. Oooo, mysterious! Well, it worked and now you guys have toured the world. What is your favorite performance memory?

We played Seoul in early 2008 and the arena was arguably the liveliest we’ve ever played for. Almost everyone in the audience was waving a multicolored glowstick in time with the music, which looked absolutely mind-blowing from on-stage.

3. Maroon 5 has gotten a lot of publicity for the explicit content in your music videos. Why make such steamy videos?

Most of the songs deal with sex or lust on some level, thus the videos reflect that. Also Adam is an exhibitionist.

4. Yeah, I’m not complaining at. all. Moving on, most of your fans expect the success and popularity that came with Songs About Jane for your new album, Hands All Over. Do you think this album will live up to the success that your other albums had? If so, why? What makes this new album different and/or better?

I certainly hope this record finds a big audience, as we’re very proud of it and put a lot of love and energy into it. It’s hard for me to say how it’s different or better since I’m so inside of the process of making it… I can say that Mutt Lange is an exacting and extraordinarily gifted producer, and i do think his fairy dust is present on these recordings.

5. For you, what is the best part about being in Maroon 5? The fans? The guys?

It’s being able to grow up and play with my best friends for the last 15 years.  We’re beyond family members at this point. We’re just a blanket together – well worn and built to last.
